Sub: Nice fun course, not difficult. Resort course style. Recommend for nice relaxed fun playing course. Would definitely play again – good value.

QuickBuck: Good course to play year round. They changed the 9’s, back nine is now the front nine. Holes 17 and 18 will tempt you to use a driver, don’t fall for it. Hit your tee shot 200 yards and you will be rewarded. The price is always right for this course and location.

Malibu: This course is in nice shape overall. Fairways were in nice shape, greens were nice. The sand traps were in need of T.L.C. (Sand). Greens were in good shape, but difficult to read. Overall fun experience.

Stone: Great views in traditional style mountain course with many elevation changes. By that I mean this course built in 1971 has more grass than later desert/mountain courses. There are desert areas, but with lots of grass for the average golfer as compared to a Grayhawk style course. This does not mean the course is necessarily easier, but is less psychologically intimidating, at least for me. Tricky finishing holes, but worth the effort. Nice restaurant and friendly staff. But where is the sand for the sand traps? Isn’t this Arizona, where sand is available in unlimited quantities? Okay, maybe sand traps use special sand, but please put some in the bunkers. Having said that, this is a course I would play any time and had a great time. Updated May, 2010: Still great place to play with friendly staff. Still not a lot of sand in the bunkers, but better. Played from the tips for the first time and completely changes the nature of the course – much harder with the 300 extra yards. Think I will play it from the Blue tees next time!

Malibu: This course has a very nice layout. Fairways are in good condition, greens were also in nice condition. Sand traps were okay, lack of large trees helped recover bad shots. Overall fun experience.

QuickBuck: Course is in good shape. Nice clubhouse. Not a destination but you will enjoy the round. An above average sub-division course.

MyTi: Overall course in good shape. Greens a little slow. Fairways a little long. Fun and playable course. Keep it in play and it is easy to score.

Stone: Very playable course in good condition this time of year. Punitive rough with rocks and sand, but pretty interesting layout with good variety. Hit it straight and you will be fine. Hit it in the dirt, and start looking for new clubs. Greens in outstanding shape, and we had a new cart! Good times.

Steadfast: Different challenge. Playable from correct distance. OK course.

MyTi: Moderate in difficulty. Some risk rewards. Blind shots. Fun course with some nice views. Challenging enough but fair.

QuickBuck: Above average Arizona course. All areas of the course are well maintained. The driving range is not designed to teach you distance, just place to hit balls. Course has not been over seeded this fall, it is in surprisingly good shape after the long hot summer. Great scenery from the elevated tees. Updated May, 2012 Course was in good shape for late May. Was 105 degrees today with 20+ MPH wind not a big problem. But the greens were fast and the wind moved your putt. The mountains always look dead around the course. This makes the fairways and greens great.

Stone: Nice desert course. Challenging, but fair. Restaurant has good food and an outstanding view with glass windows surrounded by water. Seventeen has a unique two flags and two greens hole with 50 yards difference between the two. Take your pick. A course most good golfers will enjoy. Updated May, 2012 Fair to poor condition. Greens were okay and very fast. Transitions areas bare, even though they had supplemental sprinklers working overtime. No crowds, though, so another great day!
Malibu: Updated May, 2012 Late May is a great time of year for value, but temperatures are very destructive to greens and fairways. They were in need of water. Overall condition was fair. We didn’t fight any crowds, which was a nice change.

Malibu: This course has a nice layout for a city course. Their budget must have been used up, resulting in water starved areas. Greens were okay, fairways were spotty, sand traps were also okay. Fun for the money.

QuickBuck: Tricky layout, you must play your shot. This could be a great place to play. Phoenix just won’t pay the price so you pay the price. Only play when the rates are the lowest you can find.

MyTi: Amazing what you can do with a landfill. Wash running through middle of course makes it interesting. Fun, fairly easy course. Greens heavily contoured but fair.

Stone: Very interesting layout. Huge greens in great condition, but the rest of the course not so good. If this course was closer to home I would play it frequently in the winter when it is over-seeded, but in the summer it is usually a goat track with hard pan and dead grass. We had a good time, and left the wayward balls in the ravines for the rattlesnakes.

MyTi: Fun to play a course where you can use some strategy. Scenic and playable. Service and food at restaurant very good, too bad they closed at 4 p.m. for dinner.

Malibu: This is an old established golf course surrounded by beautiful homes. The fairways were in good condition. Sand traps had enough sand in them for a good shot out. Greens were in good shape, but fast. Overall fun experience!

Ralphy: A great course to play for out-of-towners. Great views of mountains and beautiful homes. Course is old by Phoenix standards, and has a traditional feel. Course is made more difficult by strategic placement of many sand traps. Course doesn’t measure up to standards of many newer courses in Phoenix area.

Stone: Old design traditional course. Small, hard greens. A trap everywhere you look, and fiendishly designed to be exactly where you hit your tee shot. Beautiful scenery for a course surrounded by old expensive homes. Really enjoyed the course; a must play!

DufferDoc: A spectacularly beautiful course in the foothills of the Rockies, with sculpted fairways and greens (ala a private course) – this course is awesome! Playing at almost 6,000 feet altitude, the ball does go farther! But, we walked and those hills are a real challenge.

DufferDoc: This is one of the most spectacular courses I have ever played. Smooth fairways, slick (and true greens), trouble if you go too far afield. The most like a “professional” course in Southern California… which is a reasonable, on weekdays, value for the money.

Bone: Short course, small greens… always a birdie chance. Needs a lot of water and it would be much better. “Local” neighborhood course, par 3’s are challenging from back tees. No restaurant, ownership challenging… no beer cart… hate that! Retirement community.

Stone: Very flat, wide open course. Surprisingly fun. Surrounded by eclectic mix of site built and manufactured housing. Restaurant temporarily closed, and beverage cart missing in action. Semi-private course only playable in summer when snowbirds are gone. Good sand in traps. Score will rank higher when restaurant reopens and beverage cart appears.

Quickbuck: Great course for the money. Fairways were in good condition, not too many sand traps to deal with, which was nice. The greens were in good shape, the balls held well. There will be new ownership, we were told…?

Malibu: You get what you pay for. The course is average, low budget condition for East Valley golf course that is surrounded by mobile homes. This is not a course to play if you are looking for an Arizona experience. You will find this course in Podunk Town in Indiana.

Bone: This is where the Valero Texas Open is played. The sister course to previously reviewed Palmer Course at La Cantera. Some very beautiful holes on course, (No. 1 is the longest opening hole on the PGA Tour 640 yards) but the fairways and greens were suffering greatly from the drought conditions. Reading the greens is a bit more difficult due to fault line running through course. Very tricky at times. Staff was very friendly and professional at every stop at course. Saw the beverage cart 5 times during our round. Undulating multi-trapped fairways with risk reward opportunities on every hole. Tee lengths are more about ability to place shots than about being a manly man. 6,400 yards was very challenging. Course bordered with live oak and Texas mountain laurels thick enough to hide the doe and her fawn that ran across the 9th fairway. Traps were wet and had been mechanically raked, but not groomed. Very thick and tough to get out. Driving range is part of golf school located on premises and has many different targets and shots. A good course that with some rain would be one of the best in the Texas Hill Country area.
